Gary Lineker Awaits Council Decision Over AC Units

Former footballer Gary Lineker is waiting to hear from the council over whether he will have to remove four air-conditioning units from his London home after they were put in without planning permission.

The Match of the Day presenter has had to apply retrospectively for the coolers after he installed them in his Barnes property last February, even though it is a Building of Townscape Merit, the Daily Mail reported.

As the four-storey property dates as far back as 1899 and is in a Local Conservation area, he could be forced to get rid of the appliances if the local authority fails to approve his application.

However, Lineker has sought help from environmental health expert David Horrocks who determined the air-conditioning units were not a noise nuisance for his neighbours.

The report stated: “The noise climate during the daytime in this part of London is dominated by low-flying aircraft on their descent path into Heathrow where aircraft overflights are typically experienced every 60 seconds." “This made it very difficult to record meaningful close-to-source noise measurements of the mechanical plant during the daytime.”

Mr Horrocks concluded the air-conditioning units were “extremely quiet” and up to ten metres away from the neighbour’s window.

Therefore, the ex-England star hopes Richmond Council will approve planning permission on the Victorian property, which is thought to be worth £4.77 million.

This is not the first time Lineker’s West London home has hit the press, as he previously announced he would invite refugees to live in his palatial town house.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror, he said: “My kids are all grown up so I’ve got plenty of room, so if I can help on a temporary basis then I’m more than happy to do so. Why not?”
